Locals and tourists used to go to the various sites of Poros and the opposite sites of the Peloponnese on foot or on horseback through beautiful paths, many of which are still preserved today.

A. In Sphaeria there is a beautiful route that crosses the entire Hill of Sphaeria. Go up on foot or by some means of transport to the Poros Reservoir located at the beginning of the Hill Ridge. Behind the Reservoir and next to the old Windmill, a specially designed and marked old path begins, which leads to the other side of the hill, between bristly bushes and trees, with wonderful views to the left and right. The path in some places goes down, in some places it goes up and in the end it ends at the church of Agioi Anargyro, from where the view of the surroundings and the sea is amazing. During the route, which takes about 20 minutes, there are benches to rest. Just before you reach the chapel, there is an exit on your right for descent, which leads through narrow alleys to the beach of Pounta, at the level of the Archaeological Museum, if you do not want to go back to Dexameni through the reverse route.

B. In the old days, one would go to the Temple of Poseidon by three wonderful routes, among pines, olives, figs and carob trees, with a wonderful view of the diverse natural environment of the island, which is full of wild flowers, rare spences , cyclamen and poppies, as well as on the southeastern coastline, in the sea of Poros.

(a). In the first route, the path started from Synoikismus, passed by Panagia in Vrysoula, continued towards Prophetis Ilias, reached to Agios Stathis, then to Agios Nektarios and from there through the plateau of Polychroni, to "Palatia" where the Temple of Poseidon is located.

From the Temple one could go down to "Vagionia", for a swim passing through the Fousa Basin or to go fishing in "Skarpiza" passing by the Sterna of "Cro", a beautiful estate with running water.

Today to go from Poros to the Temple of Poseidon with the first route, we use three consecutive paths and the time required is approximately one (1) hour and thirty (30) minutes, with some stops.

1. The first path starts at the end of the settlement and, passing through the dry river, ends at Vrysoula, which can also be reached from the paved road.

2. After Vrysoula, the second path starts right above the spring, and continues until reaching Agios Stathis. strong>

3. From Agios Stathis begins the third path, which passes by Agios Nektarios and passing through the small plateau "Polychroni", reaches the large olive tree at the edge of the other plateau, on which the Temple of Poseidon is located (the blue route (1) as shown on the map).

(b). To go up with the second route to the Temple of Poseidon, following the coastal road of Askeli, turn left at the Pavilion and turn right at the "Stavrianeas" supermarket. The second route starts from a path located a little above and to the left of the "Delelos" studios, at the end of the settlement.

The signposted winding path climbs towards the slope of Prophet Ilias. In some parts of the route the boundaries of the path are unclear and we need to pay attention to the marking of the path.

Arriving at the main mass of the southern side of Mount Prophet Ilias, we turn a little left to find the continuation of the path and moving forward we easily head to the Palatia plateau, where an old threshing floor of the area is located.

The same path was used in the past by the "retsinades" to bring down the resin, which they collected in small cisterns, with the horses and mules and to transport it to Askeli, from where the boats took it to take it to Piraeus.

(c). With the third route one could go to the Temple of Poseidon and from the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, by an old path that started from the hill above the Monastery and passing through the "Samuili" settlement, ended at the Temple of Poseidon.

The old-timers remember that from this path the inhabitants of the "mountain" in Poros used to go down to the Monastery to go to church on Sundays. Especially on August 15, they came down in the evening, on the eve and "camped" next to the Monastery, to participate in the vespers, the church service, the Holy Communion and the big "festival" that took place the next day, on the feast of the Life-giving Spring.

Today the third route that leads from the Monastery to the Temple of Poseidon has been replaced by the paved road that starts just before the "Sirina" Hotel and after a winding beautiful route through the woods, ends at the Temple of Poseidon.

Just before reaching the Temple, make a stop and enjoy the amazing view of the Saronic from above, in which you can see Methana, Aegina, and even the lights of Piraeus on clear summer nights.

C. A beautiful route is the circular route to the Dana Lighthouse, in Gerolimenas.

The route starts from the asphalted road of the island. The start of the trail is marked with a sign.

From the path we go down to the beach, we cross it and at the end of the pebbly coast we climb the rocks of the beach and continue on a very distinct narrow path, with yellow borders, reaching Cape Akritsa, after about 15 minutes, where the Dana Lighthouse is located, which dominates the entrance to the bay of Poros and was built in 1870 by the French Company of Ottoman Lighthouses (it is one of the most beautiful stone-built square lighthouses in our country).

During the summer of 2011, the Ekaterini Laskaridis Foundation completed the complete and ground-up restoration of the historic stone lighthouse. But the result was impressive and the renovated Lighthouse is today an ornament for the Poros area and a reminder of the value of these great cultural monuments of our maritime heritage.

The Lighthouse building and its habitats were fully restored and the building was equipped with photovoltaic systems for its full energy sufficiency.

After the Lighthouse, we follow a path that is on the ridge of the hill and then descend through an olive grove to the paved road, from which we reach the point from which we started.

D. Across from Galatas, the Tourists started from Plaka with donkeys to visit the famous Lemon Forest, with the water mills and the waterfall that watered it keeping it green the lemon trees.

Today the path starts from the beach of Aliki, reaches the cape of the beach and then proceeds back along the coast of the lagoon and takes the path that leads to Panagitsa Artimos. From this point the path ascends to the old tavern of Kardasis, where one of the three water mills of the Lemon Forest was located with a small artificial waterfall that used to power the water mill. Before reaching the tavern of Kardasis, the path descends, passing the "Kro" spring, towards the chapel of Agios Seraphim and continuing to the main road, through which we return to the beach of Aliki.

E. Another route, facing Troizina, is the one that starts from the village of Troizina, opposite Galatas, passes by the stone of Theseus, branches off and ends at the antiquities of Ancient Troizina and on Devil's Bridge.

The route to the antiquities and the Devil's Bridge starts from the village square of Troizina. We follow the road that comes out of the village square (it is the extension of the road from which we came to the village) and proceed according to the signs. A little later, the road turns into a difficult dirt road that leads to the antiquities of Ancient Troizena and ends up above the Devil's Bridge.

Devil's Bridge is a rugged area of wild beauty, a beautiful ravine with rich vegetation, full of oleanders, centuries-old trees and plane trees. In the background runs a small river, which descends from the mountains, creating in some places small lakes with icy crystal clear water between huge rocks. Small waterfalls cascade over polished rocks. Crabs, butterflies and colorful insects pop out from everywhere.

Before we reach the Devil's Bridge, there is the area with what remains of the antiquities of Ancient Troizena.

Little remains from Ancient Troizena, since some were destroyed and others were used for later constructions.

However, there are exceptional finds which are kept in the Archaeological Museum of Poros and also in the National Archaeological Museum.

Today, parts of the walls of the Ancient City are preserved, as well as parts of the Wall. One of the towers of the crossing, in fact, is a landmark for the area due to its preserved height.

The Ancient City which had Walls, Acropolis, Agora and many Sanctuaries was located to the west of the current settlement, built on the northern slope of Mount Aderas and in part of the alluvial plain.

At the top of the hill was the Acropolis, separately fortified and on it was the temple of Athena.

The boundaries of the Ancient City consisted of a stream in the east (the stream of Agios Athanasios) and a second one in the west (the Gefyraio stream or Chrysorroas). The Acropolis of the Ancient City was located on a hill to the south at an altitude of 313 m. and along these two streams descended two elongated arms of its fortified enclosure. According to Pausanias, the City was surrounded by a wall built with bricks.

The Agora was located in the smooth area at the foot of the mountain, while the "most prominent" (Pausanias II.32.1) mosque of Hippolytus was outside the city walls, west of the bridge stream , at a distance of about 800m. from the ancient market and at a higher level of the foothills of the same mountain .

In the Agora there was the temple of Sotira Artemis, made of Aeginite stone, consisting of a porch and a nave. Inside the temple there were altars of the hypochthonic gods and a monument to Pittheas, on which were three thrones where Pittheas and two judges sat.

South of the temple there was the Sanctuary of Musson, in the place where today are the ruins of a Roman arched building.

In the Agora there was also the temple of Zeus the Savior, founded by Aetius, with altars and arcades.

Also near the Agora was the Theater of Troizena and next to it the temple of the Lyceum of Artemis, while further on was the temple of Apollo the theoretician. Between these 2 temples was the Holy Stone and at the edge of the Agora was the Stoa of Troizena.
